Summary of Position:

Reporting to the Operations Manager, Regulatory and Environment, this position’s responsibilities include:

  • Desktop review of proposed projects for potential environmental effects
  • Coordinate and perform field assessments for wetlands, aquatics and other environmental features
  • Complete and submit wetlands and aquatics assessments
  • Complete EAP supplements and other documents in support of regulatory filings
  • Prepare water strategy and resource specific management plans
  • Prepare environmental protection plans for construction implementation
  • Participate in construction footprint planning, providing advice to ensure regulatory compliance with required setback distances
  • Participate in construction planning, providing advice to ensure compliance with Restricted Activity Periods and required pre-construction environmental sweeps
  • Provide technical guidance to CCI staff
  • Provide expertise and advice during construction projects
  • Manage and complete post-construction monitoring projects
  • Complete required records of construction and post-construction monitoring for submission to the client or the regulator



  • Manage projects and act as a prime contact for the client and representative of the corporation.
  • Channel information between client, field, and project staff
  • Supervise and provide guidance for CCI staff towards completion of project deliverables
  • Ongoing development of systems to standardize the efficient completion of project deliverables
  • Analyze past project data to predict performance on future projects as well as determine areas for improvement
  • Review quality control process to ensure all documents meet standards
  • Manage scope, cost and schedule control
  • Overall project and discipline coordination
  • Provide technical support for various disciplines
  • Prepare and approve project deliverables such as project proposals; cost estimates; schedules; regulatory filings; quality control and checking
  • Assist with overall project execution and delivery including document control, cost control, project filing and project administration
  • Development of project procedures, templates and forms
  • Business Development proposals and studies
  • Develop client relationships to support and further business development goals
  • Travel to site to complete environmental assessment work, focusing on wetland and aquatics assessments
  • Lead regulatory applications and submissions
  • Identify potential environmental effects and determine implementable mitigation
  • Assist with overall departmental planning
  • Periodic project site visits, as required



This position may be hired at either an Intermediate or Senior level depending upon the qualifications of the successful candidate.

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in biological science or equivalent qualifications
  • Member of a professional association
  • Must meet the Qualified Wetland Scientist Practitioner criteria outlined by Alberta Environment and Parks (AEP) for persons qualified to assess wetlands in Alberta
  • Intermediate – minimum 5 years of wetland assessment or environmental assessment experience
  • Senior – minimum 10 years of wetland assessment or environmental assessment experience
  • Knowledge of provincial EAP guidelines, standards and Alberta regulatory requirements
  • Knowledge of GIS and spatial analysis
  • Knowledge of soils, vegetation, rare plants and rare plant communities is an asset
  • Knowledge of reclamation and reforestation strategies is an asset
  • Construction experience is an asset
  • Post graduate diploma is an asset
  • Qualified Aquatics Environmental Specialist is an asset
  • Organization and management skill set
  • Adaptive and responsive to demanding project timelines
  • Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite – Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point
  • Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure, problem solve and complete tasks in a timely manner and under tight deadlines
